The Department of Chemistry is working under the umbrella of Faculty of Sciences with the aim to promote Chemistry as a science and to provide opportunity to those who could not educate themselves in formal system of education for one reason or another. Its faculty consists of One Associate Professor, four Assistant Professors and one Lecturers. The Department has recently shifted to the University Research Complex (URC) at AIOU, Main Campus where it has established 5 Teaching Laboratories for BS and M.Sc. Chemistry Practicals, 6 Research Laboratories for M.Phil. / Ph.D. students and 3 Multidisciplinary Laboratories.
Objectives :
1. To Provide second chance for working people to improve
their qualification.
2. To promote the higher studies and research in the field of
Chemistry.
3. To introduce courses related to Chemistry at different. levels.
4. To establish a cadre of productive scientists who can
provide effective leadership in guiding and conducting
quality research in various branches of chemistry.
Future Plans :
Currently the Department is offering specialization in Organic Chemistry and intends to start specialization in Analytical / Inorganic Chemistry in near future.
Academic Facilities :
The Department has been successfully offering M.Sc. and M.Phil. Chemistry Programmes since 2003 and Ph.D. from 2004. Recently the Department has offered its BS (4 Years) Chemistry Programme. The Department is also coordinating Chemistry courses of F.Sc. program of this university.
