Establishment in 2015.


Keeping in view the growing need for knowledge exchange in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and in pursuit of Higher Education Commission (HEC) focus on permanent growth and expansion of research activities by developing industrial liaison, the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) has been established at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). The primary focus of ORIC is to link the AIOU’s research activities with the educational, social, economic and commercial sectors. The ORIC will provide strategic and operational assistance by acting as a research platform so that invention can be transformed into innovation for the betterment of the community as a whole. In addition, it will function as the main research hub of AIOU for disseminating research findings to the academic community through journals, conferences, seminars and trainings.





  • Establish and maintain a research culture at AIOU

  • Inculcate the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among AIOU researchers, both faculty and student.

  • Improving integration of research and education at all levels of the university

  • Strengthening university-industry relationships.

  • Commercialize Research & Development performed at AIOU.

Future Plans

  • Link the university’s research community with the needs and priorities of the corporate sector.

  • Develop opportunities for applied research and explore opportunities for technology transfer.

  • Commercialization of university research.

  • Facilitate knowledge disseminations and flow of communication through arranging conferences, symposium, and training programs.

The Allama Iqbal Open University was established in May, 1974, with the main objectives of providing educational opportunities to masses and to those who cannot leave their homes and jobs. During all these past years, the University has more than fulfilled this promise.
