Introduction
The Institute of Educational Technology is an integral part of Allama Iqbal Open University. Its purpose is to produce audio-visual materials to promote and support the distance teaching based courses of the University. The materials produced include radio and television programmes which are transmitted on the national broadcasting networks, and non-broadcast media to be used for small group instruction and individual study.

Objectives
The Institute consist of the Programme Production Department staffed by producers well trained in the skills and techniques required for multi-media programme productions related to the course materials. The Design Department provides the art, graphics and illustration work required by the multi-media productions. Designer, illustrators, cartographers, calligraphers and photographers work with the producers and course development teams to provide appropriate high quality visual materials. The Engineering Department operates and maintains professionally equipped television studio and two radio studios. It attends to the general audio-visual technical requirements of the University main campus, and provides an installation and maintainance service for regional network throughout Pakistan. The department is staffed with highly trained team of television, radio and electronics engineers and technicians. An Archive section maintains a classified and catalogued collection of the master copies of all media production, slip chart to television programme. The master copies are used for dubbing and duplication process.
Future Plans
- Expansion of FM radio network across Pakistan.
- Institute of Educational Technology successfully secured an educational satellite television channel license for the country. The television channel will be soon on-aired and will serve for the cause of education.
- IET collaborated with Government of Pakistan for the development of Teleschool Television Channel
