Introduction
This programme is designed for teachers, teacher-educators, and researchers who encounter science students in their roles and want to further develop their professional skills through a programme with a strong emphasis on professional practice. Most academicians and researchers are engaged in some form of teaching and research whether this is in schools, colleges, or universities or through other teaching-learning opportunities with undergraduate students and/or trainees. However, few have had the opportunity for professional development in teaching. PhD Science Education is beneficial for those academicians who are new to science education and training. Students enrolled in this programme will include professionals from teaching, learning, and training in science education.
Eligibility Criteria
Graduate holding MS/MPhil in the relevant discipline or equivalent with GPA 3.00/Ist Division will be eligible for admission in PhD Programme. The department will arrange test and interview as per the guidelines of HEC. Candidate will apply for admission online to the concerned chairman of the department. The candidates who intend to apply in more than one specialization will have to apply separately for each specialization. Admission will be strictly on merit and on approved criteria.

Selection of the candidates will be made strictly based on merit/criteria laid down by the Department/ University.

Teaching Methodology
The teaching methodology includes student and tutor face to face contact for approved prescribed period, teaching workshops, video conferencing, e-mail, internet, telephone coaching on a pre-planned schedule. The minimum number of compulsory face to face teaching/study hours shall be 48 for each course of three credit hours.
Assessment
The evaluation of 36 credit hours course work of PhD shall be conducted by the Controller of Examinations as per prevailing practice of the University.
The distribution of continuous assessment and final examination of each 3-credit hours course work shall be as follows:
i) Continuous Assessment & Mid Term 50% (20+30)
ii) Final Examination 50%
Pass percentage in aggregate shall be 50%. Students must pass continuous assessment/assignments and maintain the minimum mandatory class attendance of 70% in each course.

Semesters
Workshop
Two weeks workshop for proposal development after enrollment in course 4789 (Thesis). Students must develop and defend proposal in front of Departmental Synopsis Committee.
Thesis
Thirty six (36) credit hours thesis, students will work under the supervision of approved supervisor and submit quarterly progress reports to department.
Practical
During the conduct of research work practicals and experiments, are arranged by students and supervisors in collaboration with educational organizations, if required.
Viva
Viva Voce after approval of external and internal examiners.
Collaborations
Department collaborates with different educational organizations for facilitating students in conduct of research and data collection. Research students of science education department mostly conduct experiments in schools, colleges, and universities.
