Allama Iqbal Open University Regional Center Sahiwal was established on 25.11.1988 in building and consisting of seven tehsils (Arifwala, Pakpattan Sharif, Chichawatni, Sahiwal, Okara, Renala and Depalpur) and three districts(Pakpattan Sharif, Sahiwal and Okara). As far as location of this region is concerned, Sahiwal is starting point of South Punjab. Important monument of sub-continent Baba Farid-ud-Din Ganj Shakar(blessings be upon him) is situated at District Pakpattan Sharif. Two important rivers of Pakistan Ravi in North and Satluj in South are flowing/passing from this region. Its two districts Pakpattan Sharif and Okara share its boundaries with India from the side of Depalpur and Pakpattan Sharif. 
 Harrapa an archaeological site in Sahiwal Division that is a great source of attraction for the visitors of all over the world takes its name from a small nearby village has revealed remains of a typical Indus Valley civilization (3300 BCE - 1300 BCE) .7 Study Centers have been established for the seven tehsils of AIOU, Regional Center Sahiwal. Total number of tutors is 6196 and 1078-tutors have been allocated for 22073 students in various programs of AIOU in Semester Spring-2022. Well-equipped computer lab comprising ten latest model computers have been established along with with latest facility of printers and scanner for the students. Regional office reference library is also playing it pivotal role in enhancing the knowledge of the students. Twenty-three exam centers have been established in the Region.
