Region History

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Regional Centre Sheikhupura, was established on 21 March 2019 after bifurcation from the Lahore Region. Initially, it started operations in a rented building. The University acquired 5.43 kanals of land for the establishment and construction of the AIOU Sheikhupura Campus in Government Housing Colony Phase II, Sheikhupura.

Construction of the building commenced in June 2022. The state-of-the-art building, completed in June 2025, comprises offices, a Student Facilitation Desk, a computer lab, a digital library, lecture halls, an e-classroom, an examination hall, an auditorium, and a conference room.

A 20 kW hybrid solar system has been installed on the campus to provide 24/7 uninterrupted electricity backup. Additionally, 45 CCTV cameras are installed across the campus to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.

The Regional Centre started its operations in its own building on 01 July 2025, and the building was formally inaugurated on 08 November 2025. This Regional Centre comprises two districts, namely Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib. District Nankana Sahib includes three tehsils (Shah Kot, Sangla Hill, and Nankana Sahib), while District Sheikhupura includes five tehsils (Sharaq Pur, Muridke, Safdarabad, Ferozwala, and Sheikhupura).

The regional staff is rendering its best possible services to students at their doorstep in this region.
